Elgar, the Man & his Music

Find out more about the life and music of one of England's greatest composers.

Edward Elgar rose from humble beginnings in a small country cottage just outside Worcester, now The Elgar Birthplace Museum, to international fame.

His masterpieces including Salut d’amour, the Pomp & Circumstance Marches, the Enigma Variations, the Concertos for violin and 'cello, The Dream of Gerontius and the Symphonies now reach millions of people all over the world.

I am still at heart the dreamy child who used to be found in the reeds by Severn side with a sheet of paper trying to fix the sounds & longing for something very great...

(Elgar to Sidney Colvin
13th December 1921)

The Elgar Birthplace Museum has an unrivalled collection of manuscripts, letters, concert programmes, photographs and much more revealing the great man behind the music.  For more information on researching the Collection or Visiting the Museum follow the links.
