Events

Each year the Museum runs a programme of special events in the beautiful surroundings of Broadheath. The programme brings together talks, recitals and entertainment for music lovers as well as for visitors who just want to find out a little more about the life and times in which Elgar lived.

The distinguished record producer, Andrew Keener, and Andrew Neill, a trustee of the Birthplace and former Chairman of the Elgar Society, discuss Elgar as a recording artist and the recorded legacy of his music.

The 2014 Donald Hunt Lecture Series ~ My Summertimes On Bredon

Over the years Bredon Hill has provided the inspiration for poets and musicians alike and Peter Avis, who has climbed it 150 times over the last ten years, will on this occasion share his and their thoughts about it.

Since 1988 Peter has been a free-lance writer of programmes and CD booklet notes and a speaker at pre-concert talks, for numerous recorded music societies and at several branches of the Elgar Society. His second talk for the West Midlands branch was on Rosa Newmarch about whom he had recently presented a programme on Radio 4.

The Birtwhistle & Harris Exhibition

Back by popular demand David Birtwhistle and John Harris will be returning to the Museum this summer and over the Three Choirs Festival period, to exhibit their paintings and prints for the eleventh year. All works are for sale.

The 2014 Donald Hunt Lecture Series ~ From a Keats Poem to Painting and Music: Elgar, Frank Bridge and Millais

Jenny Hughes studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Madeleine Windsor and Susan Bradshaw. She taught music in schools, was a piano tutor in the Music Department of the University of Leeds, and was Head of Music at what is now the University of Worcester for many years. She continues to perform both as a solo pianist and as an accompanist, and now lives in London. She currents directs a staff choir in Belmarsh Prison.

A talk on the life and works of Elgar during the years of the First World War, given by the musician Simon Baggs. The presentation will include musical illustrations taken from works written by Elgar during the period of the conflict, as well as live performances.
