The Elgar Centre was opened in August 2000 following a fundraising campaign and support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. For years visitors had crowded into the small 19th century Birthplace Cottage to view to fascinating collection of objects it holds.
Today you can enjoy these internationally acclaimed collections in the modern, air-conditioned, Elgar Centre. These displays follow the story of Elgar’s musical development and inspirations; his early struggle for recognition and his rise to fame.
Within the Elgar Centre is the Carice Elgar Room in which a free 20 minute Introductory Video provides the perfect start to your visit.
The Carice Elgar Room also provides the setting for the Museum’s annual programme of public events which includes concerts, talks, art exhibitions and festivals.
